People always ask me: Kobi, as a tour guide of Israel, when is the best time to be in Israel? And I always respond: Israel Independence Day. There is nothing like it - plus you can get all the inflatable Israeli flag balloons you like :). Well, yesterday Israel marked 72 years of independence - on the Western Christian calendar [in Israel we celebrate Yom HaAtzmaut on the Jewish calendar]. On May 14, 1948, the Jewish community in the Land of Israel declared the State of Israel, as the British who had ruled the area since WWI were preparing to leave the next day. Technically they should have waited for the British to leave, but obviously they could not declare the state on the Jewish Sabbath. To mark this date, a wonderful tribute video to Israel was streamed online. 72 minutes of history, music, culture, food - anything you want - in honor of 72 years. Here it is for you in its entirety.
