Rhythmic gymnast Linoy Ashram won Israel's 3rd-ever gold medal this past weekend and the first-ever by an Israeli woman. It was the second gold of the Olympics, following artistic gymnast Artem Dolgyopat's gold-medal winning floor exercise. Ashram won in the all-around event, defeating a pair of Russian twin sisters whose country felt it had been robbed [photo by Reuters].
It was our fourth Olympic medal this year, whereas the most Israel had ever one in any Olympics prior to this was only two. Ashram was selected to be our flag-bearer for the closing ceremony.

Russia showed incredibly poor sportsmanship in both contesting Ashram's win, complaining about it to the news (even by their Foreign Minister no less) and mercilessly attacking both Ashram and the judges on social media. But one person did stick up for her, who knows just a little bit about gymnastics... the amazing Nadia Comaneci - who was the first to get a perfect 10!
Israeli PM Naftali Bennett also called to congratulate her saying:
"Linoy, you are magnificent. You made the entire nation happy. We received the news after Shabbat and celebrated here at home. I know that the entire country is proud of you. I also know what you have gone through, the ups and the downs. Many children in Israel are watching you and see you as a true wonder woman, an example of effort and hard work. We love you very much and wish you much success in the future. Thank you, wonder woman."
