An old adage simply says "location, location, location." Well, due to being in the right place - and time - Israel - a land bereft of natural resources - is poised to suddenly become a major world player in the most important one in the world: oil. That's right, with the peace treaty in the works between Israel and the UAE, and increased economic (as well as security) cooperation between Israel and many other oil-producing Persian Gulf States, there is a distinct possibility that Israel is about to make a splash in the world oil market. This of course comes on the heels of the game-changing discovery of massive natural gas fields in the Eastern Mediterranean which has turned Israel into an energy exporter.
This is all due to a 60-year old pipeline from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea (and vice-versa) which was ironically, initially an Israeli-Iranian venture [back before Iran's Islamic Revolution in 1979]. Yet one major impediment to all of this is the fact that Iran technically owns half of the company and is looking for a settlement from Israel of over $1 billion. Considering that Iran has constantly threatened to wipe Israel off the map, giving them $1 billion is not likely to happen soon.
