When it comes to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), I have found as a tour guide of Israel that people are often familiar with combat units such as the Paratroopers, Golani and the Armored Corps. The truth, however, is that much of today's combat takes place in cyberspace. While some people may be familiar with Unit 8200 - due to its rise to fame as the military home of many of Israel's famous startup companies - it is the virtually unknown and secret Unit 9900 which is providing Israel's warriors with the tools to succeed by harnessing the power of augmented reality.
In addition to AR, Unit 9900 has a drone unit and has now been put in charge of the new Ofek 16 spy satellite which was just launched this morning, Israel's first satellite launch since 2017. Israel is one of only 13 countries in the world with the ability to launch a satellite into space - and is by far the smallest one in both size and population. The satellite was built in partnership with Elbit Systems which creates military hardware and who I have taken groups to visit on my hi-tech tours of Israel (their new helmets for pilots are insane).
