When Can We Travel to Israel Again? A 1-minute COVID-19 test?
Updated: 6 days ago
As a tour guide of Israel, I keep getting questions from people about when will it be safe to come to Israel. My response is generally the same:
Israel will be opening up to "safe" countries at some point this summer (though not before June 14). In larger countries, such as the USA, it might be on a city by city basis. In order to make this happen, however, there will need to be testing that can be done quickly and efficiently at airports before check-in and again upon arrival at Ben Gurion Airport in Israel so that the visitor will not need to endure a 14-day quarantine period.
Assuming this is all possible - 2021 is going to be packed with tourists as people want to get away from their homes and those people who were meant to travel in 2020 and had to postpone their trips will now be competing for the same resources - guides, hotel rooms, etc. So... if you are interested in booking a 2021 trip with me - NOW is the time. I've already started to receive a number of bookings and still need to reschedule a number of 2020 clients.
If you think this is a long-way off, well, think again. Israel, of course, has done it again. Researchers at Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva have developed a "breathalyzer" test which so far has proven accurate to 90% and gives results in just one minute. It is a major step on the way to being able to start having international travel again.
