The structure at the Tomb of the Patriarchs was built by King Herod 1600 years after the Biblical matriarch Sarah was first buried there. With archaeology being impossible there, how do we know what was going on there prior to Herod? Well now we have some answers...
What brought an end to the Christian communities in the Negev desert during the Byzantine times? Hint - a lot of the same stuff that is plaguing us today... but at least they had wine!
A major Byzantine monastery has been found near Mount Tabor, where Catholics mark the Transfiguration of Jesus (though the text places it further north near Banyas - likely Mount Hermon - where Protestants tend to visit to tell the story).
