There a ton of music and film festivals happening right now in Israel - as well as new Jewish documentaries available online as well. Here is a list of some of the highlights for you from your Israel tour guide!
The Oud Festival - November 19-28
The oud is Middle Eastern string instrument and Jerusalem has held an international festival celebrating it for two decades. Due to COVID-19 it will not be happening in person. While this means that only local performers will be highlighted (as international performers can't come), due to it being free and online they hope to reach a much wider audience. The singing will be in Hebrew, Arabic and Ladino. For more check out the link below and this clip...
The Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival is still going on through November 22. One hit is "Resistance," about the story of the famous mime Marcel Marceau and his role in the resistance in WWII helping Jewish children flee to Switzerland. It stars noted actor Jesse Eisenberg and is still available through November 18. The Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival is streaming online now through December 25 with dozens of offerings including a number of free ones. Films become available for several days and then get replaced with new ones. For more, check out https://brjff2020.eventive.org/welcome

A Wing and a Prayer - This is a documentary film about WWII aviators who moved by what happened in the Holocaust, came to Israel's aid in 1948. It is now available in full here:
30 Shorts From 30 Years of Jerusalem's Sam Spiegel Film School plus...
an Extra Month of Streaming DocAviv - the renowned Tel Aviv documentary film festival.
Sam Spiegel is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a video-on-demand site of its 30 best short films, selected by a jury of 100 film people from 45 countries. And DocAviv has extended its offerings from its film festival, however they are only available to Israeli residents.
A new PBS documentary about the search for the decades-old buried treasure of a Jewish gangster is premiering this week on Wednesday, November 18.

Finally, for fans of Israeli film, the Israeli movie Asia won the Ophir Awards - Israel's version of the Oscars - and will be Israel's nominee for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars. Shira Haas won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie. For more on Haas click here:
