It's about time. This is something we have not seen until now here in Israel - the country with more museums per capita than any other country in the world. We have numerous museums about one topic, one site, one time or place or one group or people or even individuals. There are a select few museums which have attempted to tell the Jewish story throughout the ages, notably the Museum of the Jewish People (the former Diaspora Museum) and the Israel Museum. And yet they are both missing something, which is critically important, especially when it comes to connecting with the next generation...
What are the key thoughts, ideas and values which the Jewish people have brought to the world, throughout history - from ancient times until the present day? How has the Jewish experience added value to people's lives throughout history as well as to the greater world around them? Using cutting-edge interactive technology and taking visitors on a journey through time and around the globe, the new Beit HaKehillot (House of the Communities) will be attempting to impart upon its visitors a sense of Jewish pride and belonging. In short, it will not be a commemoration of Jewish life but a celebration of it.
